Betty Parker "Ms. Bette" Gunter

Betty Parker “Ms. Bette” Gunter, age 82 of North Tazewell, VA died Monday, January 05, 2015 at Eastview Adult Care in Bluefield, VA. She was born May 28, 1932 at Tupelo, MS and was a daughter of the late Bill and Maudie Young Parker. Mrs. Gunter was a lady who loved her family and serving in the ministry with her husband, the late Rev. John L. Gunter, Jr. She had worked for many years as a secretary for various insurance agencies, business offices and Churches. She loved to read and was a principal part in establishing the public library in Elkton, KY, where she drove the Bookmobile. Ms. Bette was an avid sports fan, especially when it came to NASCAR. She was a member of the Tazewell Baptist Church in Tazewell, VA and was a lady who emitted the light of Christian love. She will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Greg Gunter; one great-grandson, Garrett James Gunter; one sister, Nellie Parker. Those who survive to cherish her memories include two sons, Gary Gunter and wife, Debbie of North Tazewell, VA and Bryan Gunter and wife, Alice of Charlotte, TN; a special niece whom she raised as a daughter, Jo-Ann Coggin of Saltillo, MS; one sister, Linda Yates of Tupelo, MS; one brother, Bob Parker of Sulphur, LA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA, where a funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Belcher officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be John Gunter, Stephen Gunter, A.C. Click, Brian Allison and Chris White. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Collis and Dennis Lockhart.
