Carl Dallas Johnson Jr.

Carl Dallas Johnson, Jr., age 80, of Doran, VA went home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Dallas was born on October 5, 1942 in Washington County, VA and was the son of the late Carl Dallas Johnson and Ruth Ann Terry Johnson. He was a 1961 graduate of Richlands High School and was a retired miner from Island Creek Coal Company. He was a member of the UMWA Local Union #1509 and was a lifelong resident of the Doran area. Dallas always had a sparkle of mischievousness in his eyes, a grin on his lips, and joy in his heart. He loved to joke and laugh with others, just to see them smile. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Clare Mae Vencill, and Laura Kilbourne; and brothers, Houston, Glen “Shorty”, and Ervin Johnson He is survived by: His Loving and Dedicated Wife of 59 years, Linda Ann Shreve Johnson Loving Daughter, Susan Compton and husband, Allen of Rosedale, VA Granddaughter whom he loved dearly, Whitney Compton of Albuquerque, NM Brother, Paul Johnson of Swords, Creek, VA Sisters-in-law: Peggy Shook of Doran, VA Elsie Mutter of Belfast, VA Special Nieces: Kathy Williams of Pounding Mill, VA Tracie Wallace of Haysi, VA Linda Risner of Norwalk, CA Special Friends, Gary and Janie Thomas of Honaker, VA Special Friend and Neighbor, Debbie Reite Special Friend and Caretaker, Stephanie Arnold Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends. Special thanks to the Richlands Fire and Rescue, the wonderful nurses and staff of Maple Grove Rehabilitation; and the nurses and staff of Legacy Hospice. Funeral services for Carl Dallas Johnson, Jr. will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 24, 2023 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with Pastor Billy Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be the staff of Hurst-Scott Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Dye, Gary Thomas; and the members of the Richlands Fire Rescue. Members of the UMWA Chaplin Corps will conduct a memorial light service. The Johnson family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
