Diattia Whitson Tackett

Diattia Whitson Tackett, age 98 of Tazewell, Virginia, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 11, 2020 following a lengthy illness. Born on October 15, 1921 in Weeksbury, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Albert William Whitson and Mary Elizabeth Moore Whitson. Diattia was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Richlands, Virginia, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #104, and a member of the Richlands Rebekah Lodge #62. She was owner and operator of The Carroll’s Beauty Shop for many years located in the Gateway Shopping Center in Richlands, Virginia. She loved reading her Bible and crocheting afghans for family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Tackett; daughter, Katherine Louise Tackett; and sisters, Ethyl Whitson Zeno and Maggie Blanton. She is survived by her sister, Edith Katherine Braddy of Tarboro, NC and daughters, Margarette Yvonne Thompson of Joppa, Maryland, Dianna Kathleen Gibson of Blacksburg, Virginia, Judy Lynn Boothe and husband, Jerry of Tazewell, Virginia, and Mary Elizabeth Ratliff and husband, Randall of Lebanon, Virginia. Grandchildren include, Eugenia Pack Lasky, Cynthia DeiTos, Ralph Herman Steck, Woodrow Christopher Steck, Deborah Gail Porterfield, Jeffrey Wayne Gibson, Terrin Lee Dye, Ryan Allen Dye, and Austin Jade Ratliff. Others include twenty one great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Friday, July 17, 2020 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia where funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM with Pastor David Calfee officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grayson Porterfield, Jeffrey Gibson, T.J. Rife, Ralph Steck, Ronald Jones, Jr., and Earl Jones, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
