Eddie Dale "Popeye" Keene

Eddie “Popeye” Keene age 66, of King, North Carolina, formerly of Richlands, VA passed away on Friday, September 18, 2020 in Winston Salem, North Carolina following a long chronic illness. He was born July 3, 1954 in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Thomas Riley Keene and Bessie Stacy Keene. Eddie was a graduate of the 1972 Class of Richlands High School he was a retired coal miner from Island Creek Coal and a proud member of the UMWA. He was an avid deer hunter and sports enthusiast and he still holds the record for the past 49 years at Richlands High School for running the 2 miles at 10 minutes and 2.5 secs. Eddie was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He was a lifetime resident of the area until 15 years ago when he moved to North Carolina. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Riley "Jr" Keen, and a special uncle Cecil Keene. Those that remain to carry on his spirit are his: Wife, Moresa Cyphers Keene of King, NC Children: Marshall Keene and wife, Jennifer of Culpeper, VA Nicholas Keene and wife, Erin of Charleston, SC Patrick (PJ) Keene and wife, Jamie of Bell Buckle, TN Stepchildren: Eve Sharp and husband, Chris of King, NC Chris Bryant and companion, Alix of Lone Trace, CO Adam Bryant and wife, Suzanne of Oakridge, NC Former wife, Darlene Perry Marrs of North Tazewell, VA Siblings: Peggie Osborne of Baptist Valley, VA Janice Keene of Richlands, VA Joyce Price and husband, Bob of Tazewell, VA Patty Brown of Tazewell, VA Carol Keene of Richlands, VA Lonnie “Pete” Keene and wife, Joyce of Oxford, FL Earl Keene and wife Millie of Richlands, VA Grandchildren, Kaylee Keene, Bailee Keene, Ashlee Keene, Thomas Keene, Sierra Keene and Emma Welborn Step grandchildren, Hope Sharp, Kendall Sharp, Jax Bryant, Reese Bryant, Brooks Bryant Special granddaughter of the heart, Jordin Singletary Several Nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. Funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Leon O’Quinn officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Marshall Keene, Nick Keene, PJ Keene, Earl Keene, Gabe Donithan and Steve Whitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Stacy and Todd Stacy.
