Gary Lane Richardson

Mr. Gary Lane Richardson, age 71, of Roanoke, VA (originally Mill Creek, VA), departed this earthy life on May 11, 2023, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA. Gary was born in Tazewell County on December 13, 1951, to the late Clarence and Mary Richardson. He was a graduate of Honaker High School, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He worked as a coal miner for 25 years, spending many years among his friends at VP #3. In retirement, he helped to raise his grandchildren, for whom he would have done anything. He ultimately returned to work at Big Lots in Roanoke, making a whole new group of friends whom he cherished. Gary had a passion for learning new things and for sharing stories with friends. Left to cherish the memories of Gary are his wife of 49 years, Patty Mae Richardson; his daughter, Amanda Richardson-Ford and wife Kerry Richardson-Ford of Roanoke, VA; his son, Gary Shaun Richardson and husband Barry Lane Hylton of South Weymouth, MA; his brothers, Wayne Richardson of Conover, NC, David Richardson of Raven, VA, Steve Richardson of Mill Creek, VA, and Keith Richardson of Mill Creek, VA; his sisters Virginia Richardson of Mill Creek, VA, and Sherry Richardson of Mill Creek, VA; his grandson Johnathan Arnold of Richmond, VA; his granddaughter Hannah Arnold of Lynchburg, VA; his grandson Cameron McPhee of Roanoke, VA; and many special aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, relations, and friends. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, and other medical professionals in the Lewis Gale Surgical ICU for everything they did for Gary. Funeral Services will be conducted at Hurst-Scott Chapel in Richlands, VA, at 2:00 p.m. on May 19, 2023, with Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at the Richardson Family Cemetery on Pine Creek, located off Swords Creek, VA. Pallbearers will be Johnathan Arnold, James Valenzuela, Corey Whited, Gavin Whited, Matthew Whited, and Barry Hylton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roger Whited, David Anthony Strouth, Dresden Strouth, and Cameron McPhee. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
