Jack Dempsey Addington Sr.

Jack "Dempsey" Addington Sr., age 89, of Richlands, Virginia, went to be with the Lord April 13, 2021 following a brief illness due to COVID-19. He was the son of Joseph Jackson Addington and Ethel Perkins Addington. He was married to his beloved wife, Pauline Dye Addington, for 69 years. Dempsey was a loving husband, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a great great grandfather. He was a retired owner of Vansant Gulf in Vansant, VA and Addington Boats and Campers in Cedar Bluff, VA. He served his community as well as his country with great pride. Dempsey served as Corporal tank commander in Germany during his time in the U.S. Army. During his life he loved and cherished each moment and enjoyed God's creations. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and camping. He enjoyed spending the winter in his home in Florida. He was a member of Richlands First Assembly of God. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and church. Throughout his life he displayed and taught his family to love and serve the Lord. The most important goal in his life was to see his family and friends serve the lord and make it to heaven. He blessed his family with his wit and sound mind until the day he met the Lord. In addition to his parents, he was greeted in heaven by his 2 brothers, Edward Addington and Dallas Addington; 3 sisters, Marie Smith, Jean Eure, and Shirley Joyce; and a great-great grandson Reign Javier Godinez-Simmers and many other angel babies that he looked forward to meeting in heaven. Left on Earth to continue his legacy is his: Wife, Pauline Addington Five Children: Debra Sutherland and husband, Rev. Bobby of Broadway, VA Karen Cruey and husband, Eddie of Richlands, VA Jack Addington Jr. and wife, Kathy of Richlands, VA Donna Johnson and husband, Harold of Rosedale, VA Angela Jones and husband, Bobby of Pounding Mill, VA Sister, Juanita Smith of Clinton, TN Sister-in-Law, Janet Addington of Jewell Ridge, VA Brother in law Maze Joyce of Clinton, TN He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and their 13 spouses, 29 great grandchildren, with 1 expected, and 2 spouses, and 3 great greatgrandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and a host of his church family that he adored. Funeral services for Jack Dempsey Addington, Sr. will be conducted Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 2pm at the Richlands First Assembly of God, 151 Flat Top Rd, Richlands, VA 24641 with the Rev. Buddy Herald and Rev. Bob Sutherland officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men of Richlands First Assembly of God. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call from 1pm until 2pm at the church prior to the services.
