James Morrow

James Donald Morrow, age 81 of Richlands, Virginia passed away Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Golden Age Assisted Living home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Bishop, Virginia and was the son of the late George Frank and Alma Edna Barrett Morrow. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and a member of the Jewell Ridge UMWA Local. He worked as a coalminer for Pocahontas/Consol Mining for many years before retiring. James was a loving father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his younger years he loved spend time hunting, playing cards and shooting pool. He loved to watch Jeopardy and you knew never to call him at 7:30 because he would not talk to you. He was a lifetime resident of the area and his kind, giving spirit and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty A. Reedy Morrow; Sisters, Patricia Hope Morrow, Mary Eva Morrow; Brother, Paul Morrow. Those who continue to carry on his spirit are:Sons: James D. Morrow, Jr of Brooksville, FL Robert F. Morrow and wife Donna of Richlands, VA Step-daughters: Betty Jo Street and husband Bob of Tazewell, VA Kathy Settle of Richlands, VA Sisters: Ann Parks and husband Bob of Tazewell, Virginia Charlotte Sizemore and husband Jack of Greensboro, NC Dorothy Morrow of Hunt Valley, MD Special caregivers and friends are the Staff of Legacy Hospice and Golden Age Assisted Living home. 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for James Donald Morrow will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev.’s Craig Barber and Rick Whitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Michael Viars, Bobby Street, Stephen Settles, Randy Morrow, Christopher Morrow, Johnny Carbaugh, Edward Hope and Nathan Shortridge. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post# 9640 .
