Vern Mullins

Mr. Vern Mullins, age 80 of the Marvin area of Keen Mountain, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at a his home following a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Luther and Maxie Osborne Mullins. Vern was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He worked many years in the coal mines for Clincho mining before retiring and he love spend time hunting in his younger days. He was a lifelong resident of the Buchanan County area and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Isabelle Sluss Mullins; two sons, Bob and John Mullins; sister, Vennie Black and brother, Hassel Mullins. Those who continue on in his memory are: Daughters: Bonnie S. Street of Baptist Valley, VA Gladys Keen and husband Loyd of Ohio Judy Justus and companion Gary Easter of Garden Creek, VA Wanda Ratliff and companion Daniel Ray of Pounding Mill, VA Sons: Jerry W. Mullins and wife Angela of Baptist Valley, VA Doug Mullins and wife, Judy of Marvin, VA Lyndon V. Mullins and companion Susan Bryant of Kingsport, TN Sisters: Hazel Scott of Abingdon, VA June Osborne of Gundy, VA Gertrude Osborne of Grundy, VA Brothers: Lonzo Mullins of Princeton, VA Warren Mullins of Bland, VA Homer Mullins of Rocky Gap, VA Frankie D. Mullins of Slate Creek, VA Special friends, Phillip and Junie Keen Special Caregiver, Gary Easter 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Vern Mullins will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow at the Mullins Family Cemetery on John Clifton Hollow in the Marvin area. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA.
