Alberta Hale Lester Vandyke

Alberta Hale Lester Vandyke, age 85 of Thompson Valley, VA went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, September 1, 2020. She was born February 2, 1935 in Buchanan County, VA and was a daughter of the late Albert and Myrtle Jackson Hale. Mrs. Vandyke was of the Christian faith and enjoyed crocheting, gardening and taking care of her family. She was a very kind and selfless person, a light in a dark world, who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Virgil A. Lester; her second husband, F. B. Vandyke; one son, Jerry A. Lester; two sisters, Carmel Gladys Hale and Burnice Viola Hale Shortt; one brother, Columbus Hale. Those who survive to cherish her memory include two daughters, Barbara Rowe and husband, Denny of Abingdon, VA and Susan Gale Viars and husband, Jimmy of Thompson Valley, VA; two sisters, Joyce Conley and husband, James of Vansant, VA and Shirley Miller of Honaker, VA; five brothers, Samuel Hale and wife, Juanita of Cedar Bluff, VA, James Hale and wife, Norma Jean of Lynn Springs, VA, Harold Hale and wife, Loretta of Belfast, VA, Ray Hale of Abingdon, VA and Darrell Gene Hale and wife, Judy of Elk Garden, VA; five grandsons; one-step grandson; fourteen great-grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends whom she dearly loved., also survive. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 4, 2020 at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum #1 in Claypool Hill, VA with the Rev. Steven Lester officiating; burial will follow. Pallbearers will be grandsons, great-grandsons and other family members. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the Home Nursing Company and Hospice of Lebanon, VA for all their love and special care and support they provided for Mrs. Vandyke and her family. Those wishing to travel in procession with the family are asked to be at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA by 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September, 4, 2020. There will be no visitation prior to the graveside service.
