Alivia Ann Vandyke

Alivia Ann Nelson “Granny” Vandyke, age 98, of the Bearwallow section of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed on to glory peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at her home. Just imagine her in Heaven now, running down the streets of gold. What a time she is having! She was a lifelong resident of the Bearwallow community. She was a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed being with her family, attending cookouts, birthday parties, going to church, and watching traffic outside her living room window. She never missed a car go by! She enjoyed sitting on her porch in the summer along with her family or visitors, and if you drove by her house, you might have caught her outside painting her porch all be herself at the ripe old age of 96! She will be surely missed by all of her family, friends, and community. She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late Otis Lee Nelson and Katherine Wagner Nelson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ellis (Doc Cole) Vandyke; sister, Ottie Barrett; brothers, Jack, Cecil, Arvil, Otis, and Marvin Nelson; daughter-in-law, Becky Vandyke; and grandchildren, Teresa Tegeler, Ellis Harmon, and Scotty Harrison. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors are: Daughters: Dorothy McGlothlin and husband, Fred of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Ruby Harmon and husband, James of Bearwallow, Virginia Shirley Harrison and husband, Robert of Bandy, Virginia Sons: Bo Vandyke of Stinson Ridge, Virginia Roger Vandyke and wife, Nancy of Bearwallow, Virginia Ralph Vandyke and wife, Georgie of Bearwallow, Virginia Howie Vandyke of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Grandchildren: Tammy Hardy and husband, Max; Terri McGlothlin and husband, Tony; Trista Godbey and husband, Galen; Dusty Vandyke and wife, Melanie; Samantha Vandyke; Penny Harmon; Raymond Vandyke and Courtney Reynolds; and Brandon Vandyke and wife, Brianna Great Grandchildren: Lauren Brown and husband, Dan; Anna Sword and Trey Brown; Alexander Tegeler and wife, Sara; Andrew Tegeler; Olivia Harmon; Jake Harmon; Logan Vandyke; Layla Vandyke; Noah Vandyke; and Mason Vandyke. Extended Grandchildren: Adi, Aubrey, and Amelia Reynolds. Kenneth Byrd, Rev. Corey McGlothlin, and Rev. Dusty Vandyke officiating. Interment will follow on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum #4 at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Logan Vandyke, Jake Harmon, Alexander Tegeler, Andrew Tegeler, Noah Vandyke, Mason Vandyke, Raymond Vandyke, Dusty Vandyke, Brandon Vandyke, and Dexter Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Sons In Law and members of the Antioch Holiness Church. Friends may visit from 5 pm until 7 pm on Friday evening prior to the funeral at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
