Ann Smith Hankins Shreve

Ann Smith Hankins Shreve, age 91, of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Westwood Center, in Bluefield, Virginia, following a long illness. Ann was born on April 23, 1933, in Jewell Ridge, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late Avery Lee Smith and Narcie Laffey Hylton Smith. She was a 1952 graduate of Richlands High School, and retired as an assistant manager from Sears, where she worked for 25 years. She was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge area and was a member of the Friendly Chapel on Smith Ridge. She was a 50 year member of the Richlands Chapter #104 of Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gregory Hankins; sisters, Edith Mullins, Katherine Richardson, and Marie Smith; brothers, Roy Lee Smith, and Rufus Smith. She is survived by: Son, Thomas Gray Hankins and wife, Crystal of Candor, North Carolina Daughter in Law: Marcy Hankins of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina Grandchildren: Jeni Hankins, Sarah Hankins, Erika Hankins, Brooke Hankins, Travis Hankins Four Great Grandchildren Sisters: Princess Casey of Richlands, Virginia Bonnie Agner of Kingsport, Tennessee Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, along with a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Ann Smith Hankins Shreve will be conducted Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 1 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with Rev. Jordan White and Rev. Dwight Eads officiating. Interment will follow at Smith Family Cemetery, on Smith Ridge, near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Thomas Gray Hankins, Avery Richardson, Bill Richardson, Rick Baker, Chuck Casey, and Ronald Joyce. Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Vigil, Martin Agner, Charles Agner, Jeff Horn, Rick Puckett, John Otis Altizer, Kenny Rasnake, and Graham Freear. The family will receive friends from 11 am to 1 pm at the funeral home. Members of the Richlands Chapter #104 OES will conduct a memorial service prior to the funeral service.
