Ava Cole

Mrs. Ava Dell Cole, age 98, of Richlands, Virginia, went to be with the Lord Monday, November 7, 2011 in Richlands, Virginia hospital. Ava Dell was born December 23, 1912 in Dungannon, Virginia to the late Arthur Fugate and Lula Lambert Salyer. She grew up in Gate City and Daniel Boone, Virginia areas and she married the love of her life, the late Claude Cole, spending most of her life in Whitewood, Virginia before moving to Richlands, Virginia. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Cole’s Chapel. Ava was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a lady devoted to serving the Lord, always showing love and kindness to all, witnessing for the Lord, and thanking God for her wonderful family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death her loving husband, Claude Cole; one son, Clay Shaw Cole; three sons in law, Harold Keene, Bob Casey, and Bobby Huffman; sisters, Julie Peirson; half sister, Ida Lee Jessee; step sisters, Mallie Carter, Ollie Lane, Nannie Salyer, and Elgie Williams; four brothers, Barney, Carl, Dewey, and Edward Salyer; step brother, Hayward Peters; and special nephew, James Salyer. Survivors are: Six Daughters: Lorene Huffman of Denver, North Carolina Pauline Casey of Whitewood, Virginia Kathleen Green and husband, Larry of Charlotte, North Carolina Janice Quick and husband, Clyde of Okeechobee, Florida Patty Sue Quick and husband, Russell of Abingdon, Virginia Wanda Lowe and husband, Danny of Richlands, Virginia, with whom she made her home, receiving the best of loving care One Son: Claude (Dick) Cole, Jr. and wife, Rita of Claypool Hill, Virginia A Special Granddaughter, Shelia Maxwell. Seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren that were her pride and joy. Many nieces and nephews, loving friends and neighbors whom she loved and always enjoyed their visits especially Jimmy, Wanda, and Josh Salyer and her two very special neighbors Marie Robinson and Dorothy Deel. Love and many thanks to her caretakers at home, Judy Lambert, Lettie McClanahan Pugh, Shirley Jamison, and Sherry Miller. Funeral services for Ava Dell Cole will be conducted Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Ralph Horton and Rev. R.B. Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Louis Hunter, Jerry Gouge, Jack Cole, Grady Cole, Johnnie Altizer, Troy Cole, and Jarrod Baker.
