Avis Pruitt Boyd

Avis Pruitt Boyd entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 26, 2020 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on February 24, 1925, in the Bearwallow section of Jewell Ridge. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Nancy Cantrell Pruitt. After her marriage to Iles Boyd, they settled in the Red Ash section of Raven, and then moved to the Horton Ridge section of Swords Creek where she lived the remainder of her life. Avis was a wonderful homemaker and cook, and nothing gave her more pleasure than cooking for her family, unless it was working in her flower and vegetable garden. She believed that her job was not complete unless everyone’s tummy was full. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Iles; two brothers, Otis Pruitt and Charlie Pruitt; four sisters, Bessie Houston, Mazie Houston, Alta Wyatt, and Sarah Ball; one granddaughter, Susan Marie Hughes. She is survived by: Her Daughters: Patricia Hughes and husband, Jiles of Swords Creek, VA Annie Boyd of Huntersville, NC Cathy Compton and husband, Brent of Swords Creek, VA Trainey Walker and husband, Ric of Greensboro, NC Terry Osborne and husband, Cliff of Wardell, VA Christine Reynolds and husband, Chris of Winston-Salem, NC Son: Jerald Boyd and wife, Tressia of Cedar Bluff, VA Brother: Joseph Pruitt of Cedar Bluff, VA Grandchildren: David Hughes, Clifford Hughes and wife, Cindy; Rick Hughes and girlfriend, Erin Mazurek; Joy Osborne and husband, Paul; Christopher Boyd and wife, Sarah; Jenna Compton, Joseph Reynolds. Step grandchildren, Christopher Walker and wife, Ashley; Arianne Hunt and husband, Caleb; Brittani Bass and husband, Chris Special Niece, Yvonne Arnold Also surviving are eight great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren and a host of wonderful neighbors and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Legacy Hospice of Richlands; Angela Harrison of Clinch Valley Physicians; and New Garden Rescue Squad. Funeral services for Avis Pruitt Boyd will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA with Preacher Jack Lyons and Pastor Josh Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be David Hughes, Clifford Hughes, Rick Hughes, Christopher Boyd, Paul Osborne, and Michael Arnold. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Osborne, Jr., Caleb Osborne, and Joseph Reynolds. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
