Benjamin Brown

Mr. Benjamin Franklin (Ben) Brown, age 83 of Cedar Bluff, Virginia passed away in a Richlands area hospital, Wednesday, December 07, 2005 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie and Cora Mutter Brown both Tazewell County natives. He was retired from the Pounding Mill Quarry where he served as a demolition expert for over 30 years. Ben was a lifetime resident of the Tazewell County area and he was of the Methodist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II. He was also a member of the Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post #9640 of Richlands, Virginia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 Sisters Myrtle Brown and Pearl Brown, 5 Brothers, Rhudy, Dewey, Bert, Kyle and Earl Brown, and one great grandchild Seth Brown. Survivors include: Wife: Mrs. Dona Helton Brown of Cedar Bluff, Virginia 2 Daughters: Mrs. Bonnie Ball and husband Danny of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Mrs. Joann Crouse and husband Roger of Honaker, Virginia 2 Sons: Mr. Jim Brown and wife Jo of Greensboro, North Carolina Mr. Lonnie Brown of Raleigh, North Carolina Brother: Mr. Claude Brown and wife Emily of Swords Creek, Virginia Grandchildren: Todd Brown, Susan Jackson, Kimberly Langston, Karen Carrier, Stephen Brown and Anna Magrini. 6 Great-grandchildren also survive along with a host of family and friends. Special friends are Preferred Home Health and Community Home Health and Intrepid V.A. Care along with the nurses and staff at the I.C.U. Clinch Valley Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr. Benjamin Franklin (Ben) Brown will be held on Friday, December 9, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carl Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of the VFW Casey-Shortt Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Helton, Clyde Helton, Toby Short, Ellis Lester and Dr. Larry Mitchell. Friends can call at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia Thursday evening from 6 ? 9 pm.
