Bentley Horton

Mr. Bentley Horton, age 74, of the Long Branch section of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Saturday, September 04, 2004 in a Johnson City, TN V.A. Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Raven, Virginia and was the son of the late Bill and Molly Elizabeth Reynolds Horton, both Russell County natives. He had made his home in the Russell County area all of his life and was a former automobile body repairman for Pats Pontiac in Raven, Virginia. He was a member of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and Tazewell County Chapter #31 DAV. He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee, Paul and Donald Horton. Survivors are: His Wife: Stella Brown Horton Two Daughters: Shirley Gobble of Gainesville, GA Peggy 'Susie' Thornsberry and friend, Arvis Stevenson of Tazewell, Virginia Two Sons: Randy Dean Horton and wife, Kathy of Swords Creek, Virginia Billy Michael Horton of Raven, Virginia Two Sisters: Pauline Little of Columbus, Ohio Dorothy Horton of Swords Creek, Virginia Three Brothers: Roy Horton of Swords Creek, Virginia Troy Horton of Swords Creek, Virginia James Calvin Horton of Columbus, Ohio 6 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Bentley Horton will be conducted Thursday, September 9, 2004 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Eugene Miller and Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Arvis Stevenson, Darrell Horton, Bobby Joe Horton, David Saunders, Michael Saunders, and Jerry Perkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be long time friends: C.K. and Patty Parker, Rual and Shelby Miller, Lovera 'Sis' Perkins; Marie Horton; Roy, Doris, and Terry Helton; Niece Helton. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and Tazewell County Chapter #31 DAV will conduct military graveside rites.
