Betty Irene Peery

Betty Irene Rasnake Peery, age 66 of the Cochran Hollow community of Cedar Bluff, VA died Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at her home. She was born September 10, 1947 in Cleveland, VA and was a daughter of the late Kenny L. and Bertha Arabell Smith Rasnake. Betty had worked several years for the United States Postal Service, where she served the citizenry of Yards, VA as Post Master. She enjoyed raising a garden and canning the vegetables that came from it. She was a kind hearted person and was member of the Central Church of Christ in Baptist Valley, VA and loved music and singing. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Linda Brewer. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, of over forty-nine years, James William “Jim” Peery; one son, James Marvin “Jimbo” Peery of Cedar Bluff, VA; three sisters, Kate Grizzle of Abingdon, VA, Delphie O’Quinn of Lebanon, VA, and Vernie Smith and husband, Ira of Cleveland, VA; one brother, Darrell Rasnake and wife, Gail of Rosedale, VA’ brother-in-law, Charles Brewer of Illinois; two granddaughters, Jessica Rachael “Jessie” Peery and Michaela Ranea Peery, both of Bastian, VA; special sister, Janet Harrison of Tazewell, VA; her church family at the Central Church of Christ; a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Irene Rasnake Peery will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Central Church of Christ in Baptist Valley, VA with Minister Brian Mullins and Minister Bill Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Yost Family Cemetery on Cochran Hollow Road in Cedar Bluff, VA. Men of the Church will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Church after 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
