Bill Harrell Shook

Bill Harrell Shook, age 78, of Doran, VA, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Bristol Regional Medical Center, in Bristol, TN following a lengthy illness. He was born in Jewell Ridge, VA and was the son of Myrtle Kiser Shook of Richlands, VA and the late David M. Shook. Bill was a Class of 1953 graduate of Richlands High School. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 and a member of the UMWA. He was a retired coal miner having been employed by several local coal companies for a total of 41 years. Bill was the founding pastor of Cedar Bluff Community Church where he served for 31 years. He is a member of the Clearview United Methodist Church in Doran, VA and a lifelong resident of the Richlands, Cedar Bluff and Doran areas. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Shook. He is survived by: His Loving Wife of 59 years, Peggy Shreve Shook Three Daughters: Kathy Shook Williams and husband, Kelly of Pounding Mill, VA Angela Shook Patton and husband, Bryan of Cedar Bluff, VA Tracie Shook Wallace and husband, Tim of Haysi, VA One Son, David Shook of Richlands, VA Special Son of the Heart, Marty Messick and wife, Liz of Sevierville, TN Nine Grandchildren: Benjamin Patton and wife, Samantha of Charleston, WV Justin Williams and fiancée Natasha Owens of Paintlick, VA Caitlin Williams of Pounding Mill, VA Cerise Gibson and husband, Rick of Jacksonville, FL Michael Ramey of Grundy, VA Cierra Shook of Jacksonville, FL Grant Wallace and wife, Hannah of Grundy, VA Steven Wallace and Megan Wallace of Haysi, VA Three Grandchildren of the Heart: Joe Teague, Roxanne Messick, Victoria Messick of Sevierville, TN Two Sisters: Helen Hess and husband, Claude of Richlands, VA Margie Smith and husband, Curt of Richlands, VA Also surviving are five great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Bill Harrell Shook will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. James Brooks and Rev. Paul Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Benjamin Patton, Michael Ramey, Justin Williams, Marty Messick, Matthew Thompson and Allen Compton. Honorary pallbearers will be: Pudge Moore, Ron Cook, Larry Meadows, Tommy Compton, Bobby McGlothlin, Tom Witten, Benny Stiltner, William Messick and J.C. Johnson.
