Billie Jean Horton

Billie Jean Hess Horton, age 90, of Claypool Hill, VA, passed away at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loving family on April 17, 2025. Billie was born on July 15, 1934 to the late Rev. Burgess Hess and Agnes Boyd Hess. On June 10, 1950, she married the love of her life, Bobby James Horton. Bob and Billlie Jean were married for 49 years and 10 months at the time of his death on April 10, 2000. Bob was her only love. Billie Jean was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. As a faithful Christian her entire life, she loved her church family and everyone who knew her loved her. Billie Jean went to work in November of 1964 and worked at the following companies: Eastern Isles, Jacqueline Manufacturing and Faith Apparel, Appalachian Ageny for Senior Citizens, and Plaster’s Discount Furniture until January of 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Horton; an eight-month-old daughter, Barbara Ann; one sister, Anna Ruth Richardson; five brothers, Jack, Paul, Jerry, Benton, and Darrell Hess; one granddaughter, Heather Dawn Casey; and one Great-Granddaughter, Willow Rose Horton. Funeral services for Billie Jean Hess Horton will be conducted on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Interment will follow at the Horton Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge, near Raven, VA. Pallbearers will be Kevin Dye, Christopher Dye, Dylon Dye, Braxton Maxfield, Bryce Dye, David Richardson, and Bobby Horton. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Shelton, Jason Hurt, James Hash whom she considered “her boys,” and members of the City on a Hill Church. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, evening from 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
