Burgess Eugene Hess

Burgess Eugene Hess, age 79, of Tazewell, Virginia, found peace and freedom for his soul on Sunday, October 31, 2021. He was born May 8, 1942 in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Arvil Hess and Gladys Moore Hess Morrison. Burgess was a 1960 graduate of Tazewell High School and a lifelong Bulldog and Dallas Cowboy fan. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Vietnam Era. He became a licensed insurance associate and spent many of his years helping others to understand the importance of life insurance. He was a well known Home Beneficial Insurance representative for many years before retiring. He had also worked several other jobs over the years; one at Bluefield Supply Company and a dedicated employee of Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell and Richlands. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War Barns-Beavers Post #7136. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Linda Doss Hess; his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Hess Bumgardner; and his best friend, Claude Marshall. Burgess is survived by his son, Brian Hess and wife, Missy of Hershey, PA Step-sister, Ruth Reed Argus and husband, Bob of Manassas, VA. Grandchildren, Evan Bumgardner of Fall NAS, NV Brittany Hess Nowland and husband, Devon of PA Bradley Hess, Kyle Hess and step-son, Jeff Seltzer Three great grandchildren: Kaydon, Carson and Waylon. Also surviving are his wonderful caregiver, Sharon Asbury his best firned, his fur baby Mollie along with a host of family and friends. The funeral service for Burgess E. Hess will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, with the Rev. Lawrence Hayes officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Brian Hess, Joe Drum, Kyle Hess, Sean DeFriece, Devon Nowland, Evan Bumgardner. Members of the Barns Beavers VFW Post# 7136 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 pm on Thursday until time of service.
