Carl Wayne Thompson

Carl Wayne Thompson, age 60, drew his last breath on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He had battled long and hard through severe illnesses, and he had told his family, “I am ready to go home”. Carl was born on March 22, 1965, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the son of Mary Louise Miller of Honaker, Virginia, and the late Carl “Johnny” Eugene Thompson. He was a private person and would rather be at home than anywhere else. The house would be full of screaming indians, gunfire, and horses because all he watched on TV were westerns, which he knew by heart. Carl enjoyed listening to music and working on the fine details of building a model car with his son. He had a kind and loving spirit and would often joke around with others. He adored children, and taking long drives, sitting and whittling and sharpening knives. He was a retired coal truck driver and was a lifelong resident of the Raven area. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Thompson; grandmother, Catherine “Granny” Miller; niece, Susan Stiltner; and brother-in-law, Lewis Cook. In addition to his mother, he is survived by: His Wife and Soulmate of 35 years, Teresa Pinion Thompson Son: Matthew Wayne Thompson and his wife, Caitlin of Honaker, Virginia Sisters: Catherine Hess and her husband, Leon of Honaker, Virginia Nancy McGhee and her husband, Gary of Lebanon, Virginia Lisa Cook of Honaker, Virginia Amy Musick and her husband, Earl “Junior” of Honaker, Virginia Special Friend, Wayne French of Raven, Virginia Many nieces, nephews, and loved ones also survive, along with a host of friends. Special thanks to Lebanon Dialysis Center, Highlands Ambulance Service, and Legacy Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services for Carl Wayne Thompson will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with Rev. Annette Warren officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Austin Wall, Jonathan Pinion, Kevin Vance, Brandon Walls, Ryan Magee, and Victor Scott. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Monday evening at the funeral home.
