Carl L. Wimmer

Carl L. Wimmer, age 90, of the Stateline Ridge section of Grundy, Virginia departed this life for his eternal home on August 19, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Carl was born on May 17, 1929 in Buchanan County, Virginia to the late Jim and Sarah Breeding Wimmer. He was a retired miner and timber cutter. Carl was a deacon and member of the Board of Trustees of the Crossview Church of Christ on State Line Ridge. Mr. Wimmer had served in the United States Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, James Wimmer; three sisters, Effie Hylton, Helen Wimmer, and Claudine Hatfield; two brothers, Rufus and Luther Wimmer; and three infant brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his family. Those left to cherish his memory include His Wife of 65 Years, Ethelene Stewart Wimmer Daughters Dianne Sweet and husband, Junior of Grundy, Virginia Carlene Stiltner and husband, Keith of Grundy, Virginia Sons Terry Wimmer and wife, Connie of Pilgrim Knob, Virginia Randy Wimmer and wife, Susan of Grundy, Virginia Vernor Wimmer and wife, Michelle of Grundy, Virginia Daughter-in-Law, Vicki Wimmer of Grundy, Virginia Sisters-in-Law Irene Foster and husband, Bob of Pikeville, Tennessee Hattie Stewart of Strongsville, Ohio Louise Stewart of Ligonier, Indiana Nine Grandchildren, Ten Great Grandchildren, and a host of additional family and friends also survive. Special Thank You to Janice Lester who was his hospice nurse. Funeral services for Carl L. Wimmer will be conducted at 12 Noon on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Preacher Hobert Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at the Clearview Wimmer Cemetery on Stateline Ridge Road near Grundy, Virginia. Pallbearers will be James Stacy, Aster Ward, Greg Reynolds, Bill Mullins, Ronald Compton, Buford Mitchell, Gary Burton, and Darrell Wimmer. Leonard Adams, Raymond Wimmer, Ernest Kennedy, and Bobby Lester will serve as honorary pallbearers. Members of the VFW Casey-Shortt Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, August 22, 2019 after 6 PM.
