Carol Pauline Cook Mullins

Carol Pauline Cook Mullins, of Richlands VA, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on October 25, 2024, in Tazewell, Virginia. She had spent a peaceful week with family and friends. She was born on Jewell Ridge, VA, on May 3, 1933, to the late Russell Paul Cook and Dorothy Burke Cook. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Stevens, beloved grandson, Paul Steven Mullins; and stepfather, Clyde Cook. Carol was a lifelong resident of Tazewell County and was a graduate of Richlands High School. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a member of the Jewell Ridge Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for many years. She loved all church activities and especially Bible School. She was a member of the Eastern Star Richlands Chapter #104. Carol attended SWVA Community College and loved academia. She worked as a Greeting Card Consultant and, upon retirement, was the manager of Richlands Dairy Queen. Carol was a master quilter and taught quilting classes. She donated many beautiful quilts to fundraisers. She blessed friends and family members with a quilt to cherish for years to come. She loved all sports and was a member of the Little League Booster Club and was an enthusiastic Richlands Blue Tornado fan. She loved listening to games on the radio or TV of the Tornados, Golden State Warriors or Cleveland Browns. She was a skilled bowler and enjoyed league play. She loved cooking and planning Wednesday lunches with her brother, Paul Ellis, and niece, Rhonda. As she got older, this was a highlight for her. She was active in the GOP political arena for the election board and was treasurer for 12 years. She loved traveling to political events, and Gospel Music Concerts. Those left to cherish her memories are her sons, Minister James Mullins and wife, Patty; Jeff Mullins and wife, Jackie; Patrick Mullins and wife, Lorraine; brother, Paul Ellis Cook and wife, Bonnie. Grandchildren, KeriBeth Schrage and husband, Luke; Philip Mullins and wife, Julie; and Ellie Mullins; three great-granddaughters, Ariella, Everleigh, and Olivia; nieces, Rhonda Nease and husband, Gary; Paula Jackson and husband, Richard, and Ami Stiltner; nephew, Daniel Stevens and wife, Brenda; sister-in-law, Jenny Hagy; and friends of more than 40 years, Pat and Brian Martin; and loving caregiver, Ann Cantrell, along with a host of family and friends. The service for Carol Mullins will be Friday, November 1, 2024 at 7:00 pm with Minister James Mullins, Philip Mullins, and Pastor Malcolm Stuart officiating at Hurst Scott Funeral Home in Richlands VA. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm. The burial will be on Saturday at 11am at Maple Hill Cemetery in Bluefield VA. Pallbearers will be Philip Mullins, Gary Nease, Bryan Martin, Joe Smith, Mike Vandyke and Luke Schrage. Honorary Pallbearers will be Rhonda Nease, Pat Martin and Ann Cantrell. She will be laid to rest with her beloved grandchild, Paul Steven Mullins. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jewel Ridge Presbyterian Church, Jewell Ridge Virginia or the organization of your choice.
