Charles Baker

Mr. Charles Monroe 'Casey' (Holcomb) Baker, age 62 , of North Tazewell, Virginia died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in McDowell County, West Virginia and was a son of the late Rev. Frank Holcomb and Mary Magdalena Hicks Holcomb, both McDowell County, West Virginia natives. He had made his home in North Tazewell for the past 2 years, but had lived most of his life in McDowell County, West Virginia. He had attended the Big Creek High School at War, West Virginia, and he was a retired coal miner and carpenter. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran, he had served 3 tours in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict, and he had been stationed at the Berlin Wall and Okinawa. Casey was a member of the American Legion Post 175 of Bradshaw, West Virginia and the Barns- Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell, Virginia. He was a member of the Living Spring Pentecostal Holiness Church of North Tazewell, Virginia. Survivors include: His Wife, Phyllis Ann McCoy Baker Daughter, Mrs. Bret (Melinda) Blankenship of Tazewell, Virginia Sons, Charles M. Baker, Jr. and wife Yvonna of Tazewell, Virginia Thomas Spohr of Columbus, Georgia Sisters, Mrs. Ewing (Mary Frances) Begley of Tazewell, Virginia Mrs. Patricia Donovan of Beckley, West Virginia Brother, Robert Edward 'Blue' Holcomb of Wise, Virginia Half-sisters, Mrs. Anna Cooper of North Carolina Mrs. Ada Woody of Bartley, West Virginia Half-Brother, Roger Baker of Bartley, West Virginia. Grandson, John Patrick Casley Blankenship. 8 nephews, 5 nieces and 5 great nephews and many friends also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 1:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Virginia with Rev. Lacy Griffith, Rev. Bill Keen and Rev. Mary Frances Begley pastor of Living Spring P.H. Church officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Virginia. Pallbearers will be, Allen Underwood, Robbie Brewster, Mark Collins, Johnny Hicks, John Casley Blankenship, Michael Donovan, Dale Chapman and Charles Baker, Jr. Members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell, Virginia will conduct military graveside rites.
