Charles Clarence Hill

Charles Clarence Hill, age 86 of Abingdon, Virginia passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, October 23, 2015 in Abingdon, Virginia following a lengthy illness. He was born in Dickenson County, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie and Carra Stanley Hill, former Dickenson County natives. He was a retired coal miner for Pittston Coal and had lived in the Abingdon area since 2011 having moved from the Richlands area where he lived since 1979. He was a member of the Claypool Hill Church of Christ and was a member of the Masonic Lodge Excelsior 261/AF&AM of Charlotte, NC and a UMWA Local #1760 District 17 off Seabord, VA. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Bobby Kyle Hill; two sisters, Arizona Hill, Lona Adkins; and brothers, Fitzhugh, Bradford, Willie, Homer, Welford and Franklin Hill. Survivors are: His loving wife, Shirley Nowlin Hill of Abingdon, VA His children, Donnie C. Hill and wife Janie of Roanoke, VA Deona C. Hill Imsand and husband, Stan of Covington, GA Wendy R. Hill Dye Horn and husband, Mark of Abingdon, VA 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive. The Hill family would like to give special thanks to Wellmont Hospice, you have each given exceptional care and love to Charles and we want to thank you! Our special love and thanks goes out to Paula Reynolds, Angie Cullop, Robin Coleman, Robin Brewer, and his wonderful caring physician, Dr. Jennifer Jonkers. You ladies have shown true meaning of caregiving and love for your patient and their family. We would like to also thank Sandra Dasher for her love and caregiving in his final days. Being his daughter in law made it even more special. A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00pm on Sunday evening, October 25, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Evangelist Bob Smith officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00pm on Monday at the Hill Family Cemetery in Clintwood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Mark Horn, Stan Imsand, Brian Cline, Chad Cline, Shawn Hill, Scottie Dasher, Dallas Dye, Denver Dye, Matt Jones, Rodney Hill, and Josh Osborne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harvey Claypool, Tivis Brown, Hayman Hill, Dewey Adkins, Bobby Dasher and Local 1760 Members. A masonic service will be conducted at 7:00pm on Sunday night before the funeral service. Visitation will be held from 6-9 pm on Sunday evening.
