Charlie Lewis Proffitt

Charlie Lewis Proffitt, age 82, of Premier, VA, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 12:05 AM with his family by his side. Born in Buchanan County, VA. He was the son of the late Ocie “Belle” Marie Davis and Henry Melvin Proffitt. Early in his life, he moved to Michigan where he worked for the Ford Motor and Chrysler Motor company for many years, but he eventually moved back to his hometown and took a job working for underground mining companies, such as Beatrice Coal Co., Island Creek Coal Co., and Jewell Smokeless where he was a powder man drilling into the rock and setting charges. After getting injured in a rock fall that ended his mining career, he focused on his children, family, and friends. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Proffitt and Ocie Belle Marie Proffitt; two children, Baby Poffitt and Donnie Proffitt; brothers Chester, Melvin, Hubert, and Brady Proffitt; and sisters, Jean Dye, Darlene Ball, and Georgia Brown; and his first wife and mother of his children, Linda Lou Horn Proffitt. Those left to cherish his memory: His Loving Wife, Patsy Sue Proffitt Sons: Delmer Proffitt of Richlands, Virginia Charles Andrew Proffitt and wife, Jenni of Cedar Bluff, VA Daughter, Lovace Marie Bowman and husband, Leslie of Roanoke, VA Step Daughters: Tammy Hill of Kannapolis, NC Angie Humphrey of Cedar Bluff, VA Sisters: Ruth James of Belfast, VA Beatrice Gilbert of Cedar Bluff, VA 8 Grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren also survive. Special thanks to Clinch Valley Medical Center and Ultra Home Health and Hospice for thier care and concern. Funeral services for Charlie Lewis Proffitt will be conducted Monday, September 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with the Rev. Tim Lester officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The Proffitt family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home. The UMWA Chaplain Corps will conduct honors.
