Charlotte Sayers

Charlotte Horton Sayers, age 62, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Virginia following a lengthy illness. She was born in Doran, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Otis “Redeye” and Freda Altizer Horton of Tazewell County, VA. She was a special lady who touched many hearts and lives. She was a graduate of Warwick High School in Newport News, VA and had attended Marshall University and Southwest Community College. She was a loving mother, and grandmother who devoted her life to her family and friends. Charlotte was an avid reader and enjoyed going to church and attended Trinity Tabernacle in Raven, VA. She had worked many years at the Richlands Public Library before retiring. She had a passion for nature; she loved being outdoors so she could view God’s handiwork. She had lived most of her life in the Richlands area. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy Sayers. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her daughters: Tracy Horton Wright and husband Rick of Raven, VA Jennifer Dye and husband Jeff of Swords Creek, VA Wendy Griffith and husband Phillip of Raven, VA Brother, Allen C.E. Horton and wife Deborah of Hampton, VA Her Grandchildren are, Aaron Peak, Austin Horton, Olivia Griffith, Jeffery Dye, Jr., Joseph Wilson and Shirley Wilson. Funeral services for Charlotte Sayers will be conducted at 1:00pm on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA with the Rev. James Horton and Rev. Sammy Barnett officiating. Interment will follow at the Chambers Family Cemetery on Davis Mtn., located near Shortt’s Gap. Pallbearers will be Walter Beavers, Derek Childers, Danny Horton, Tommy Dillion, Rick Keen, Robbie Peak, Jeff Meadows, Michael Boyd, Wayne Johnson and Roy Boyd. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Dwight Bailey, Rev. Bunny Gregory and Kelvin Crabtree.
