Claude Brown

Claude Brown age 97, of Swords Creek, Virginia made his crossing to Heaven’s shore to be with loved ones gone on before and to wait for those of us yet to make the crossing. He departed this life on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Charles Franklin and Cora Mae Mutter Brown, formerly of Tazewell County. He was a retired tipple operator for Pounding Mill Quarry. Claude was a loving husband, dad, granddad, great-granddad and great-great-granddad. In life he enjoyed woodworking and family gatherings. He never met a stranger and loved talking to everyone. He was of the holiness faith and a lifelong resident of the area. Claude was the last surviving member of immediate family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six brothers, Dewey Brown, Rudy Brown, Earl Brown, Kyle Brown, Bert Brown and Ben Brown; two sisters, Pearl Brown and Myrtle Brown. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife of 60 years, Emily Lee Byrd Brown of Swords Creek, VA Five Special Daughters: Linda Salyers and husband Jimmy of Christiansburg, VA Phyllis Hall and husband Ronnie of Swords Creek, VA Judy Gross and husband Gary of Swords Creek, VA Gaynell Richardson of Swords Creek, VA Janice Brown of the home One Special Son, Charlie Brown and wife Missy of Richlands, VA Nine Precious Granddaughters, Tracy Vinson and husband Keith; Ramona Dowdy and husband Billy; Valerie Burton and husband Roy; Lori Thornsberry and husband John; Britta Herald and husband Mackenzie; Chasity Estep and husband Brandon; Charlotte Brown, Jenny Gross and Angel Brown. Two Grandsons who were dear to his heart, Kevin Salyers and wife Jennifer; Dr. Eric Richardson and wife Rebecca. Ten Great Grandchildren, Hilary Thompson and husband Tim; Rachel Carter and husband Robert; Adam Dowdy, Hannah Dowdy, Nathan Burton, Emily Salyers, Sydney Salyers, Isaac Thornsberry, Sky Estep, Pierce Richardson. Three great great-grandchildren, Hayden Thompson, Drew Thompson, Gabe Thompson. Funeral services for Claude Brown will be conducted at 2:00pm on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Daniel Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Dowdy, Howard Byrd and Rick Richardson. The Brown family will receive friends Thursday night from 6-9 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.
