Clayton Stevenson

Clayton Rufus Stevenson, age 80 of Canebrake, WV passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007 at a Richlands, VA hospital. He was born July 12, 1927 at Valls Creek, WV and was the son of the late Arthur and Lizzie (Kizzie) Earls Stevenson. He was a retired coal miner from Jacobs Fork and New River Mines (Pocahontas) and was a member of the UMWA Local #6633 of Hartwell, WV. He had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the House of Praise at Berwind, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Geneva Blankenship Stevenson, four brothers, Chapman, Hubert, Lloyd and Willis Stevenson, three sisters, Velma Keene, Euva McReynolds and Goldie Stevenson, and Grandson, Brian Wayne Hay. Left behind to cherish his memories are; Loving wife, Geneva Jackson Stevenson Daughters; Sheila Altizer and husband Vernon of Bluefield, VA, Donna Hay and husband Tom of Claypool Hill, VA, Connie Branch and husband Eddie of Baptist Valley, VA and Bridgett Billips of Yadkinville, NC Step-Daughter; Renee Smithey and husband Bobby of Athens, TN Step-sons; Dennis Willis and wife Rachel of Pigeon Forge, TN and Regis Willis and wife Terri of New Baltimore, Michigan Sister, Minnie Christian of Bandy, VA Grandchildren; V. G. Altizer, Tara Crawford, Melissa Addison, Farrah Boyd, Brandon Hay, Joey Laws, Clay Somoskey and Vincent Somoskey. Great-grandchildren, Cody Crawford, Katy Crawford, Canaan Addison, Wynnter Boyd, Lauren Hay, Miranda Somoskey, and Madeline Laws. Step Grandchildren; Rachel Willis, Angel Smithey, Brad Willis, Brian Willis, Matt Willis, Jimmy Willis and Eric Isbell. Special niece; Debbie Dishman of Canebrake, WV Special caregivers, Dr's. Thakkar, Pillai, Sheikh, Jabourian and Winegar and the 5th floor nurses at CVMC. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel of Tazewell, VA with Rev. Arey Bandy and Brandon Hay officiating. Interment will follow at Hartwell Cemetery, Hartwell, WV. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Barns-Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell, VA will conduct Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
