Clyde Gratton Wimmer, Sr.

Clyde Gratton Wimmer, Sr., age 67, of Whitewood, Virginia, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017 at his home. Mr. Wimmer was born on June 20, 1949 to the late Grat and Lila Burress Wimmer. He was a retired miner for Jewell Smokeless. Clyde graduated from Whitewood High School in 1968. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching and directing the recreation programs in Whitewood. Clyde was a member of the Baptist Bible Church. He was a Vietnam Veteran who had served in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers: Roy Dean Wimmer and James Dial; two sisters: Darlene Smith and Kathy Trego; and his grandparents who raised him: Suel and Alta Wimmer. Those left to cherish his memory include: Best friend: Gale Wimmer Son: Clyde Wimmer, Jr. and wife, Madonna of Richmond, Kentucky Daughter: Crystal Wimmer-Dick and husband, Tim of Covington, Virginia Sister: Arlene Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland Brothers: Troy Wimmer and wife, Debbie of Whitewood, Virginia John Dial and wife, Kathleen of Baltimore, Maryland Grandchildren: John Preston Wimmer and Vernon Renfro The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Legacy Hospice for the care that they provided Mr. Wimmer during his illness. Funeral services for Clyde Gratton Wimmer, Sr. will be conducted at 2PM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Reverend Clyde Wimmer, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia where members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be Preston Wimmer, Gerald Horne, Jonathan Dean Smith, Billy Wimmer, Ricky Goodman, Ryan Keen, Archie White, Mike Wright, Troy Wimmer, and Chester Rife. Honorary pallbearers will be: Drake Presley, Ronnie Catron, Robert “Jargo” Thomas, Jeffrey “Plug” Horne, Bobby Jean Price, Billy Puckett, Eugene Johnson, Harold Wimmer, Freddie Keen, Chetric Rife, Dr. John Willis, and former boys and girls in the Whitewood little league sports programs. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 30, 2017 after 5PM at the funeral home.
