Dana Jean Kennedy

Dana Jean Kennedy, age 68, of Richlands, Virginia, was surrounded by her loving family when she drew her last breath on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the home of her daughter, Dede Greene. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Marvin Fred and Mabel Houchins Underwood. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Dana enjoyed being a homemaker, and spending time with her family. She loved to go to yard sales and find treasures, eating out, watching TV and talking on the phone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac “Sam” Kennedy; grandson, Gavin Ryan Justice; sisters, Janet Ann Bullion, Geraldine Roberts; brothers, Tommy Blankenship, Donald Blankenship and Marvin Underwood, Jr. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her Daughter, Dede Greene and husband, Tim of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Her Son, Ira “Chuck” Jackson, Jr. and wife, Orlisa of Richlands, Virginia Sisters: Elaine Shortt and husband, Buford of Road Ridge, Virginia Betty Payne of Mansfield, Ohio Brothers: Buddy Blankenship of Sparta, North Carolina Danny Rocky Underwood of Richlands, Virginia Special granddaughter, Amanda White that she helped to raise. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Community Home Care, Helping Hands, and caregivers, Valerie Hale and Sissy. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Dana J. Kennedy will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, October 9, 2017 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. J.C. Johnson and Walter Boyd officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Dustin Carty, D.J. Justice, Tim Greene, David Short, Tommy Bullion, and Doug Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be: Gerald Bullion, Bud Jackson, Scott Kennedy, Samuel Goodmen, and Ray Salyers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday evening at the funeral home.
