David Griffith

Mr. David Jennings Griffith, age 55, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, formerly of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2005 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina following a lengthy illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Balford "Homer" and Mary Lou "Sue" Taylor Griffith, both Tazewell County natives. He had made his home in the Winston Salem area for the past 8 years and had spent 34 years in sales having worked for S & S, Ingersol Rand, Cardinal Metals, Long-Airdox all of Claypool Hill, Virginia. He also worked for Lacy J. Miller Co. of Welcome, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1967 and had attended SVCC and had received an Associates Degree in Business. He was a member of the Mt. Camel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC and a former member of the Richlands First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF & AM, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Irene Jones Griffith. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors are: One Daughter: Sterling DaVon Bollinger and husband Jonathan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina One Son: Grant Ewing Griffith of Winston-Salem, North Carolina Funeral services for Mr. David Jennings Griffith will be conducted Monday, February 21, 2005 at 2:00PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Joe Collins and Rev. Ken Eller officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: David Bollinger, Wayne Honaker, John Honaker, Adam Honaker, Brad Jones, and Ben Brewer. Honorary Pallbearer will be Don Horne. Friends may call from 12:00PM-2:00PM Monday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. The family requests that donations by made to Hospice & Palliative Care Center, 110-C South Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and Tazewell County Chapter #31 DAV will conduct Military graveside rites. Members of Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF & AM will conduct Masonic graveside rites.
