Dickie McGee

Martin E. “Dickie” McGee, age 73, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 in a Kingsport, Tennessee hospital. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late E.E. and Mattie Ella Ringstaff McGee. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was a local businessman having been a former owner and operator of several convenience and grocery stores. He also owned and operated and leased several coal mining operations. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1959 and attended Bluefield College. He was a proud supporter of Richlands High School athletics and was an avid Virginia Tech and L.A. Dodger fan. He was an accomplished athlete at Richlands High School in both basketball and football, earning all-area and all county honors in both. He officiated high school basketball and was a former member of the Appalachian Officials Association. Dickie unselfishly gave to those in need especially to children in need of coats around Christmas time. His two grandsons were the joy of his life and he was a devoted family man who loved his family dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Nicholas Blake McGee; and two sisters, Jean M. Reynolds and Patsy Ringstaff. Survivors are: His wife of 55 years, Judy M. McGee Son: Jimmy McGee and wife, Jennifer of Richlands, Virginia Grandsons: Gunner McGee and Keegan McGee Nephews: John White and wife, Sherry; Terry Ringstaff and wife, Kim; Scotty Ringstaff and wife, Diane; Tony Ringstaff and wife, Jennifer; and Brent Reynolds and wife, Carmella Nieces: Tami Ringstaff and Julie Forehand and husband, Randy Memorial services for Martin E. “Dickie” McGee will be conducted Sunday, February 1, 2015 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Richard Smith and Rev. Stafford Compton. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Doug Hess, Dr. James McVey, Peter Mulkey, Randy Bolling, Gene Hurst, Jim White, Junior Russ, and Eddie Yates.
