Dolores Naomi "Maw Dee" Cordle

Mrs. Dolores Naomi “Maw Dee” Whitt Cordle, age 85, of Raven, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior November 5, 2013 at her home. She was born on August 31, 1928 at Red Ash, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Billy and Lula Davidson Whitt of Tazewell County, Virginia. Mrs. Cordle was a former employee for the Richlands Town Police Department and lived all her life in the area. She was a member of Belfast Full Gospel Fellowship, former member of Raven Assembly of God Church and charter member of New Hope Assembly. She was the center of her family and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. Her heart’s desire was for the family circle not to be broken. She lived her life for her family and church family. She fought a courageous battle with cancer. She received her ultimate healing as she met her savior. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Luther “Brownie” Cordle; special son-in-law, Danny Smith, infant grandson, Jeffery Smith, one sister-in-law and six brother-in-laws. She is survived by: Two Daughters: Mrs. Teresa Jane Smith of Raven, Virginia Carolyn “Susie” Lowe and husband, Marvin of Raven, Virginia Two Sons: Dennis Cordle of Raven, Virginia Randall Cordle and wife, Cathy of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Special Daughter-in-Law, Barbara Cox Special Daughter-in-Law and caregiver, Peggy Farmer Three Sisters: Mrs. Frances Crouse of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Mrs. Doris Messick and husband, Glen of Covington, Georgia Mrs. Magaret Hicks and husband, Raymond of Oxford, Georgia One Brother, Daniel Whitt and wife, Carolyn of Richlands, Virginia Four Sister-in-Laws, Ruth Wolowick, Nellie Coleman, Bernice Cordle and Barbara Cordle Twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren Special friends, Nadine Ball and Barbara McCoy, her pastors, Rev. Claudie Throgmartin and wife, Helen and Rev. Danny Altizer and wife, Abby. Other caregivers, Dr. Mario Stefanini, who took care of her until he retired in August and Legacy Hospice Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors. Funeral services for Dolores Naomi “Maw Dee” Cordle will be conducted Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 8:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Claudie Throgmartin, Rev. Danny Altizer and nephew, Rev. Rick Whitt officiating. Entombment will be 11:00 am on Thursday, November 7, 2013 at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Granddaughters, great granddaughters and great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 6:00 pm Wednesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
