Donald Willard Brooks

Donald Willard Brooks, age 69 of the Baptist Valley community of North Tazewell, VA died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his home. He was born September 8, 1946 at Leckie, WV and was a son of the late Opie Ray and Ethel Perdue Brooks. Mr. Brooks had worked for many years as a Coal Miner for Postar Coal Company. He enjoyed joy riding; listening to music, especially Elvis Presley and spending time with his grandchildren. Donald was of the Methodist faith. He was a loving husband, father, and grandpa, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Altizer Brooks; one son, Glen Allen Brooks; one sister, Juanita Kelly; two brothers, Kenneth J. Brooks and Charles Brooks. Those who survive to cherish his memory include one daughter, Jamie Lambert and husband, Douglas of Baptist Valley, VA; one son, Jason Brooks of Baptist Valley, VA; three sisters, Sharon Bramlett of Leckie, WV, Zelma Toler of Huntington, WV and Edna Clifton and husband, Ellis of Baptist Valley, VA; one brother, Jerry Brooks and wife, Debbie of Leckie, WV; five grandchildren, Kayla Roberts and husband, Micha, T.J. Marrs, Zachary Marrs, Jeremy Marrs and Kelsey Brooks, all of Tazewell, VA; four great-grandchildren, Alexa Marrs, Kenzley Marrs, Brennan Roberts and Jaden Johnson; special friend, Linda Street of Thompson Valley, VA; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Donald Willard Brooks will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Leroy Long officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, VA. Pallbearers will be T.J. Marrs, Jeremy Marrs, Douglas Lambert, Opie Brooks, friends and family. Honorary Pallbearer will be Zachary Marrs. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Hurst-Scott Funeral Home: 630 West Main Street, Tazewell, VA 24651. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016.
