Donald Fred Rose

Donald Fred Rose, age 82, of Raven, VA was surrounded by his family as he passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Buchanan County, VA and was the son of the late Julius and Rosa Davis Rose. Donald was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He had devoted his life to caring for his family and was a retiree from Jewell Smokeless. He was a lifelong resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Rhoda Keen Rose; maternal grandparents, Reese and Cathern Ball Davis; four brothers, and four sisters. Those that remain to carry on his loving spirit is his: Wife of 57 years, Peggy Joyce Hess Rose of Raven, VA Daughters: Jennifer Hylton of Raven, VA Loretta Ray and husband, Rufus of Belfast, VA Tracey Tate and husband, Leonard of Doran, VA Son, Heath Rose and wife, Tiffany of Cliffield, VA Grandchildren: Derek Ray and wife, Kim; Brittany Ray and Eric Stiltner, Amanda Ball and husband, Craig; Amber Griffey and husband, Chad; Kayla Milhoan, Trista Altizer and husband, Eric. Great grandchildren, Adelyn Stiltner, Hadlee Ray, Kylee Stiltner, Madison Griffey, Zoey Griffey, Charleigh Ball, Anna-Lee Ball, Caleb Ball and Garrett Milhoan. Sisters: Arizona (Kat) Joyce of Richlands, VA Maxine (Maxie) Brown of Douglas, GA Juanita Blankenship and husband, Dempsey of Orangeburg, SC The funeral service for Donald Fred Rose will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with the Rev. Johnnie Smith, Rev. Joe Horn and Rev. Rick Whitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Ball Family Cemetery on Road Ridge near Raven, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Derek Ray, Craig Ball, Chad Griffey, Eric Stiltner, Garrett Milhoan and Jack Rose. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Matney, Bob Johnson, Rev. David Horton and Rev. Phillip Horton. The family will begin receiving friends at 6:00 pm on Saturday evening at the funeral home.
