Donald Allen Shortt

Donald Allen Shortt age 64, of Raven, Virginia drew his first breath in heaven Monday, July 19, 2021. He had battled for some time with a very lengthy illness and was with his family in Wake Forest Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina when he won the war and received his ultimate healing. He was born September 11, 1956, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the son of the late Hubert Oliver Shortt and Barbara Lorraine Stilwell Shortt. He was a former machinist and mechanic for Long-Air Docks of Claypool Hill, Virginia. Donald was a member of Pure In Heart Ministries of Tazewell and loved the Lord with his whole heart. The best dad, popie, and husband that anyone could ever ask for. His family always came first in his life. His granddaughters were his true joy. He was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Willard Shortt, James Shortt; sister, Lorraine Shortt; nephews, J.D. McGlothlin, James Bradly Shortt, Darrell “Eddie” Edward Shortt. Those who remain to carry on his loving spirit are: The love of his life, his wife Marcella Dye Shortt of Raven, VA Son: Nicholas Alan Shortt of Raven, VA Daughter, Rachel Burks and husband Erik of Richlands, VA Sisters: Patsy McGlothlin and husband, Darnell of Honaker, VA Sue Newberry and husband Rondal of Doran, VA Norma Keen and husband, John of Cedar Bluff, VA Leisa Shelor and husband, Dave of Blacksburg, VA Brothers: Darrell Shortt and wife, Judy of Raven, VA Ricky Shortt and wife, Karen of Raven, VA Sister-in-law, Sylvia Shortt of Raven, VA The joy of his life, his granddaughters, Addie Burks and Ellie Burks of Richlands, VA Several nieces, nephews, and a host of family friends also survive. The funeral service for Donald A. Shortt will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at the Pure in Heart Ministries in Tazewell, Virginia with the Pastors J.R. Elswick and Doug Bowman officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia, and friends and family will serve as pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends at noon at the church on Thursday until the time of service.
