Donnie Lowe

Mr. Donnie Lee Lowe, age 55, of Baptist Valley section of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at a Tazewell, Virginia hospital following a sudden illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Raymond and Geneva Ball Lowe, both Tazewell County natives. He had made his home in the Baptist Valley all of his life and was a retired miner for Island Creek Coal Corporation V.P. #6 and Consolidated Coal Corporation V.P. #8. He was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1969 and former President and Field Rep of District #28 of UMWA. He had just retired from six years of service as the Western District representative for the Board of Supervisors of Tazewell County. He was a member of UMWA Local #2232 Oakwood, Virginia, Casey Shortt VFW Post #9640 Richlands, Virginia, Vietnam Veterans of America Blue-Gray Chapter #628 of Princeton, WV, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran having been decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star. Survivors are: His Wife: Alma Alsbrook Lowe One Daughter: Donita Presnell and husband, Jeff of Johnson City, Tennessee Two Sons: Travis Lowe and wife, Jessi of Roper, North Carolina Chad Lowe of the home One Sister: Mrs. Phyllis Dotson of Bristol, Virginia Two Brothers: Jerry Lowe and wife, Sharon of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Gary Lowe and wife, Jennifer of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Two Grandchildren, Bree Presnell and Graci Lowe also survive. Graveside services for Mr. Donnie Lee Lowe will be conducted Friday, February 24, 2006 at 11:00AM at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia with the Rev. Preston Mathena officiating. Interment will follow. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call after 6:00pm Thursdy evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the School for Life, Youth on a Mission, 213 Lyons Avenue, Tazewell, Virginia 24651.
