Dulcie Clara Smith

Dulcie Clara Smith, age 92, of Richlands, VA, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024 at NHC Healthcare Bristol, in Bristol, VA. Dulcie was born on September 15, 1931 in Swords Creek, VA and was the daughter of the late Lonnie Dye and Elizabeth Perkins Dye. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Smith, Jr.; children, Linda Camp Bobby Smith, and Steven A. Smith; siblings, Minnie Cruey, Hassel Dye, Clifford Dye, Exie Hicks, Maxine Summerland, and Clinton Dye. Dulcie was the last survivor of her immediate family. She was a licensed nurse, who worked at the Mattie Williams Hospital, the Clinch Valley Clinic, and various nursing homes in the area. She was a nurse for over 40 years in addition to raising six kids; she had time to visit friends and other families to provide nursing care. We have a lot of friends and family that cared for her during her time of need and we have some special people that we would like to thank. Special thanks to: Naomi Ray, Virginia Gillespie, and Sarah Dunkin. These ladies have been real angels to her over the years and greatly enhanced her quality of life, especially in her time of need. Also, thanks to everyone at the Richlands Tabernacle Church, especially Pastor Phillip Horton (May God Bless him); Pastor David Horton, and Pastor James Horton. Special thanks to Steve and Tammy Shelton-Pullin who assisted our mom when she had to go to doctor appointments and watching her when she was home. She was a member of the Richlands Tabernacle. She is survived by: Her Daughter, Wanda Shinault of Roanoke, VA Sons: Donald L. Smith and wife, Kim of Piney Flats, TN Roger K. Smith of Roanoke, VA Also surviving are ten grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Funeral services for Dulcie Clara Smith will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 5, 2024 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with Rev. Roger Boyd and Rev. David Horton officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Smith family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Friday afternoon at the funeral home.
