Earl Smith

Earl Dolphus Smith age 86, of Richlands, Virginia passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, November 26, 2010 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the son of the late Beverly and Edith Wade Smith, former Buchanan natives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Dolphus was a retired coal miner from Jewell Smokeless Coal Company and a member of the UMWA Local # 6155 of Seaboard, VA. He was a member of the Evangelistic Outreach Full Gospel Church in Richlands, VA. He was a lifetime resident of the area and the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Lula Martin, one infant sister, three brothers Shular, Luther and Tom C. Smith. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife, Marie Carter Smith of Richlands, VA Daughter, Carol Ann McClanahan and husband Lonnie of Richlands, VA Son, Marcus Allen Smith of Richlands, VA Foster Brother, Bill Russ and wife Darlene of Oakwood, VA Friends and caregivers: Legacy Hospice of Preferred Home Health Grandchildren, Rhonda Harrison and husband Chris, Ervin Wayne Short, Jr., Willie Earl Short, David Allen Smith. Great-grandchildren, Jay Harrison, Brandon Harrison, Faith Short, Brianna Short, Isabella Martin, Rayna Short, Kayla Short, Taylor Short, Kiya Short and Adrianna Short Funeral services for Earl Dolphus Smith will be conducted at 11:00 am on Sunday, November, 28, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Otis Musick officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Chris Harrison, Lonnie McClanahan, Lonnie Blackwell, R.B.
