Earl Kenneth Wysor

Earl Kenneth Wysor, age 86, of Richlands, VA passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. Ken was born on February 3, 1930 in Richlands, VA and was the son of the late Whitten and Mabel Stinson Wysor. He lived his entire life in Richlands except for the years he proudly served his country in both the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of Richlands High School, class of 1948. The Richlands Presbyterian Church where he belonged, was a vital part of his life. He wore many hats serving his church and his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was an elder, church trustee, Sunday school teacher and was in charge of church maintenance for many years. He was an outstanding member of his community. He served as Mayor of Richlands for 16 years where he worked tirelessly for the good of the citizens of Richlands. In 2011, he was named Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Richlands Chamber of Commerce. He was also recognized by the General Assembly of Virginia for the many years of service he gave to his town in many areas of volunteering. Ken was retired from the State of Virginia with 39 years of service. He loved his God, family, church, town and the many wonderful people he had the pleasure of knowing and working with. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Wysor and wife, Lula; sisters, Octavia Sawyer and husband, Boyden, Josephine Bastyr and husband, Ervin. He is survived by: His Loving Wife of 63 years, Joan Reedy Wysor Daughters: Sandy Wysor Tatum and husband, Randy of Cedar Bluff, VA Clara Wysor Dye and William Simmons of Bristol, VA Grandchildren: Chad Tatum and wife, Jennifer and their children, Jack and Grant Tatum; Ben Tatum and Stephanie Smith; Clarissa Tatum, and Nathan Wysor Dye and son, Asher Paul Brother, George Wysor of Slaughter, LA Niece, Betty Ann Sword of Cedar Bluff, VA Nephew, Bill Wysor and wife, Merle of Kernersville, NC Several nieces and nephews also survive along with a host of family and friends. A funeral service for Earl Kenneth Wysor will be conducted 2 pm on Friday, August 19, 2016 at Richlands Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Paul Min officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Men of the Richlands Presbyterian Church will serve as pallbearers. The Wysor family will receive friends from 6-9 on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Members of the Casey-Shortt Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites.
