Ethel Watson

Ethel Irene Cantrell Brown Watson, age 88, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. She was born in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Elbert Lee Cantrell and Nancy Rebecca Horn Cantrell. She was a retired school teacher for many years in both West Virginia and Virginia. She ministered in addition to teaching in the Assembly of God faith. She pastored both Trinity Assembly in Cedar Bluff, Virginia and the Road Ridge Assembly of God Church near Raven, Virginia. Her spirit and love for teaching was evident in her life and her ministry as a disiciple of Christ. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Rev. Daniel Boone Watson, Jr. and Frederick Lee Brown; sisters, Frances Rosalee Hylton Hughes; brother, Beve Curtis Cantrell; and step children, Joe Waston, Lucy Davis, Peggy Corea, Barbara Coldwell, and Wanda Faye Craven; and step granddaughter, Lisa Altizer. Survivors are: Son: Jim Brown and wife, Pat of Richlands, Virginia Step Children: Anne Watson Brewster, Millie Watson Kaseeska, Bessie Purdle, James Watson, Bill Watson, Tony Watson, and Lou Watson Grandchildren: DeDe Richardson and husband, David; and Jason Brown and wife, Amanda Great Grandchildren: Brennan Richardson, Bryson Richardson, and Jase Brown Several Step Grandchildren and Step Great Grandchildren Funeral services for Ethel Irene Cantrell Brown Watson will be conducted Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at 1pm at the First Assembly of God, 151 Flat Top Road, Richlands, Virginia 24641 with the Rev. Buddy Herald and Rev. Lou Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Men of Richlands First Assembly of God will serve as pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family after 6pm on Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
