Flora Juanita Lawson

The world lost a beloved mother, maw-maw or Aunt Flora, when Flora Juanita Lawson was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She was born in Pea Patch, WV on September 23, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Isom Breeding and Rebecca Wimmer Breeding. When Jesus said you are to be the salt of the earth, he was talking about mom. It is often referenced to a person who exemplifies goodness, kindness, forgiveness, genuineness, humility and trustworthiness. She was a life long Christian that lived for her Lord first and family second. She lived these 90 years as a life that any of us strive to live, one with a servant heart. If there was a need at the church, she was the first to volunteer to get it done, especially if it involved cooking a meal or talking to a brother/sister in need. If the church doors were open, she was going to be there. She never stopped living with that servant attitude until her age caught up with her over the last year. No one can project the lives that they have touched or impacted but mom’s list would be unmatchable. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Rufus Lawson who passed away in 2008. They were married for 55 years. She also lost 2 children at a young age, Stevie Wayne Lawson and Donald Rufus Lawson, Jr. They both passed away in an accident in 1959. Surviving children include Debra Ball of Richlands, Nancy Casey of Richlands; Edward Lawson of Advance, NC; Ricky Lawson and wife Pam of Richlands; Patty McCoy of Richlands; and Tim Lawson and wife Melissa of Christiansburg, VA. Mom was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Fred Ball and Eddie McCoy and her daughter-in-law Jennifer Lawson. She was blessed with 17 grandchildren: Living- Michael and Norbie Lawson, Redonna and Wes Baldwin, Jason and Gabi Lawson, Anthony Lawson, Chelsea and Kasey Kirby, JT and McKenzy Anderson, Amanda and Barry Strouth, Beth and Derek Vance, Wesley and Renee Ball, Derek and Whitney Ball, Olivia Lawson, Maggie Lawson; Deceased- Adam Cruey, Juanita Cruey, Randy Cruey and Greg Ball. Her great-grandchildren include: Isabella Lawson, Chloe Lawson, Jay Fuller, Lukas Fuller, Mia Lawson, Madison Strouth, Kip Vance, Holly and husband Chase Keen, Megan and husband Jason Watson, Killian Ball, Tristan Ball, and Alexis Ball. Great-great-grandchildren include- Kennedi Watson. “Adopted” grandkids through the years that she baby sit and that still call her maw-maw- Race Moir, Will Moir, Kirby Moir, Elie Moir, Patrick Cronce, Bill Cronce, Lyda Goforth, Jake Goforth and Jed Goforth. Mom was also preceded in death by the following siblings including Johnny and wife Georgia Breeden, Roy Breeding, Estel and wife Sissy Breeding, William and wife Goldie Breeding, Eugene and wife Wanda Breeding, Thurel Breeding and her loving sister Pearl Day. Surviving siblings include: Glen and Rita Breeding, Jack and wife, Eunice Breeden and Nellie Breeding. Mom’s wish up until her death and that she proclaimed at her 90th birthday party is she didn’t want to leave this earth until all her family got saved, baptized and had a relationship with our Lord. We don’t know someone’s heart but if there are any that have fallen short of her wish it wasn’t for lack of prayers that she prayed incessantly to our Savior. Only time will tell if those seeds that were sown will turn into saved souls that will rejoice with her one beautiful day in heaven. A special appreciation to her caregivers Lauren Earls and Polly Dowd. Their care for mom in her final year was not only beneficial to the family but they created lasting friendships with mom with the care and love they provided. A Celebration of Life Service for Flora Juanita Lawson will be conducted Monday, March 3, 2025 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Monte Elswick officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Friends and family are invited to say a final goodbye to mom on Sunday, March 2, 2025 from 6pm until 8pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, her wishes were for her family and friends to support her home church, Richlands Church of God, at 405 Jones Chapel Rd, Richlands VA 24641. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” As your Own Don’t be sad, or grieve for me, Or feel I have left you alone. For my Savior said I had labored enough, And by grace he called me home. My prayers are for all of you, To see the seeds of faith that have been sown. For He has prepared a place for you, If you accept Him as your own. The seeds are planted in your heart, To be watered, loved and grow. The rest is up to you my friend, If you allow Jesus’ love to show. All are welcome, all are loved, No matter of the things you’ve done. Jesus’ blood can wash you clean, God’s gift…..His only Son. As my days on earth are over, Oh how the time has flown.
