Frank Herndon Bowman

Frank Herndon Bowman, age 85 of the Witten’s Mill community of North Tazewell, VA died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. He was born August 20, 1927 in Tazewell County, VA and was a son of the late Stanley L. and Matilda Jones Bowman. Frank was a man who loved people and could tell stories and spin yarns with the best of them. He had worked several jobs throughout his life: He was a United States Navy Veteran; a Staff Manager for a leather tanning company, a monument salesman, a sales counselor for cemeteries, but one of his favorite jobs was volunteering with the “Child Shall Lead Them” food pantry in Tazewell, VA. He was a member of the American Legion Post #133 in Tazewell, VA and a member of the Tip Top United Methodist Church at North Tazewell, VA. Frank never met a stranger and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Hicks; two brothers, Scott Bowman and Rhea Bowman. Survivors included his loving wife of sixty years, Lucia T. “Lou” Bowman, who passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013. In life they were nearly inseparable, you hardly saw one without the other, and now they are together in the glorious splendors of heaven together. Those left to cherish his memory include three sisters, Nancy Sawyers, Esther Carr and Connie McGuire all of North Tazewell, VA; two brothers, Reece Bowman and wife, Norma of North Tazewell, VA and Harry Bowman of Sandston, VA; one brother-in-law, Charlie Hicks of Cincinnati, OH; one sister-in-law, Alma Bowman of Richmond, VA; special friends, Patsy Bowman, Jack and Linda Melvin, Jack and Linda Lawson, Bill and Judy Hicks, Ronnie and Sophie Sparks, and Lucille Powers; his church family; several nieces and nephews, other family members and many friends also survive. Funeral services for Frank Herndon Bowman will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Pastor Jim Horn officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Ben Tom Bailey, Dale Bailey, Jack Zane Thompson, Frank Mitchell, Wade Sawyers, Keith Carr, Mike Sawyers and Jim Sawyers. Honorary Pallbearers will be his nephews, and special friends, Jack Thompson, Bob Pauley, and John Wimmer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. (noon) – 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 7, 2013. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA and two of his nephews who are members of the JROTC.
