Franklin Delanore "Bud" Jackson

Franklin Delanore “Bud” Jackson was born in Richlands, VA, on June 19, 1937, to William “Whisker” Bill Jackson and Molly E. (Addison) Jackson. Following a lengthy illness, he passed away at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA, on January 19, 2021. As a young, married man Bud and his family moved to Cleveland, OH, and made their home in the “Forest City” for close to 23 years. While in Cleveland, Bud worked for the Great Lakes Fence Company where he professionally installed residential and commercial fences. In the mid 1970’s, Bud moved his family back to Richlands and remained here until his death. After moving back home, Bud spent a number of years working tirelessly as a coal miner, mostly under the employment of Island Creek Coal. In addition to his parents, Bud is preceded in death by his former wife, Alice Shirley Lester. He is also proceeded in death by: four sisters: Maddie Bragg of Jewell Valley, VA; Stella Quesenberry of Dublin, VA; Mary Collins of Deleware; and Dorothy Hess of Richlands, VA; five brothers: Tommy Jackson, Pete Jackson, Jim Jackson, and Dobber Jackson all of Richlands, VA; and Roso Jackson of Florida. Survivors include his three children: Jackie William Jackson of Staunton, VA; Gary Wayne Jackson and wife Connie of Richlands, VA; and Vanessa Gail Simmons of Charleston, South Carolina. Other survivors also include: Four grandchildren: Ashlei Matthews of Vinton, VA; Ryan Vandyke of Roanoke, VA; Ciji Jackson of Richlands, VA; and Kurt Jackson of Staunton, VA. Three great-grandchildren: Savannah Boyd of Richlands, VA; Tyler Matthews of Vinton, VA; and Alexis Matthews of Vinton, VA. One brother: Ronnie Jackson of Richlands, VA. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Heritage Hall in Tazewell, VA, for their love and care that they provided to Bud over the past 15 months. Funeral Services for Franklin Delanore Jackson will be held at Hurst Scott Funeral Home on Friday, January 22, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. James Vance and Rev. Phillip Horton officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 1PM to 2PM on Friday, January 22, 2021, at Hurst Scott Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be William “Billy” Lester, Joe Hayes, William “Bill” Lester, Rocky Underwood, Doug Jackson, and Tim Greene. Burial will follow at the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia.
