Freda Altizer Horton

Mrs. Freda Belle Altizer Horton, age 82, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born at Whittaker Ridge and was the daughter of the late Bliss Moody and Cora Beavers Altizer. She had made her home in the Raven area most of her life and attended the Trinity Tabernacle in Raven. She was a member of the Virginia Black Lung Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Casey-Short VFW Post #9640. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 ¢ years, Otis Horton; two sisters, Madeline Altizer Nelson and Beatrice Altizer Jessee; and three brothers, Jim Tom Altizer, Bliss Moody Altizer, Jr., and Charlie Altizer. Survivors are: Two Daughters: Charlotte Horton Sayers of Raven, Virginia Tracy Horton Peak of the home One Son: Allen C.E. Horton and wife, Deborah of Hampton, Virginia Five Sisters: Janie Altizer Barnett of Whittaker Ridge, Virginia May Altizer Elswick of Yorktown, Virginia Betty Altizer Jessee of Springville, Virginia Loraine Altizer Wyatt and husband, Jim of Hampton, Virginia Lucille Altizer Hayes and husband, James of York County, Virginia Seven Grandchildren: Jeremy Horton and wife, Sonya; Jennifer Sayers Dye and husband, Jeff; Tabitha Horton Hayes and husband, Todd; Jason Horton; Wendy Sayers Griffith and husband, Phillip; Aaron Peak; and Austin Horton. Seven Great Grandchildren: Olivia Griffith, Jeffrey Dye, Jr., Mikayla Horton and Isaiah, Nevaeh Hayes, Ayden Hayes, and Allisyn Hayes Funeral services for Mrs. Freda Belle Altizer Horton will be conducted Thursday, October 6, 2005 at 1:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. James Horton and Rev. Sammy Barnett officiating. Interment will follow at the Chambers Cemetery at Shortt?s Gap, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Chris Horton, Danny Horton, Jerry Barnett, Shawn Beavers, Reece Proffitt, Rick Keen, Tim Griffith, Jimmy Bonds, and Johnny Sparks. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Bunny Gregory, Orville Gregory, Dr. James H. McVey, and loving nephews.
