George Columbus Hill

George Columbus Hill, age 80, of the Horton Ridge section of Swords Creek, VA, passed away at his home following a lengthy battle with black lung on December 24, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. George was born on June 17, 1944, in Buchanan, Co., VA, to the late Marvin William Hill and Louise Juanita McGhee Hill. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA Local #1760. He was also a member of the Pine Creek Holiness Church and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Mary Ruth Boyd and Judy Carol Hill; and brother Dennis Hill. George is survived by: His wife of 60 years, Edith Lousie Hill Sons: George Hill, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Horton Ridge, VA Dennis Hill and wife, Lorie Hill of Wardell, VA Scott Hill and wife, Dawn, of Hansonville, VA Life-long friend, Jess Whited Special friend of the family, Judy McGhee Sister: Rita Whited and husband, Raleigh, of Swords Creek, VA Grandchildren: Rebecca Sexton and husband, Judd; Amy Horton and husband, Joe; Sarissa Mitchell; Casey Lester and husband, Eric; and Cody Hill 10 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive. Funeral services for George Columbus Hill will be conducted on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at 1 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with the Rev. Jim Richardson officiating. Members of the United Mine Workers Dtist. 17 Sub-28 Chaplain Corp will conduct services prior to the funeral. Burial will follow at the McGhee Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge. Pallbearers will be: Bentley Mitchell, Braylon Mitchell, Cody Hill, Terry Hill, Eric Lester, Shawn Chapman, and Richard Osborne. Honorary pallbearers will be Men of The Pine Creek Holiness Church. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 28, 2024 from 6-9 PM at the funeral home.
