Georgia Griffith

Georgia Hester Dunford Griffith, age 87 of Tazewell, VA went home to be with her Jesus, while surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the home of her daughter Dixie Mitchem at 202 Lyons Avenue, Tazewell, VA. The family may be reached there. She was born December 29, 1922 in Hartwell, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late, Samuel Barney and Annie Fitzipatrick Dunford. She was a full time homemaker, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Georgia was a member of the Amonata Freewill Baptist Church all her married life until she moved to Tazewell and She later joined the Tazewell Baptist Church and loved her life and work with the Sunday School Class there. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Pat Griffith, two brothers, Avery and Tom Dunford and Four sisters, Mary S. Baldwin, Helen Harmon, Elizabeth Eaton and May Cooper. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her Son: Johnny Griffith and wife Linda of Tazewell, VA Daughters: Dixie Mitchem and husband, Donald of Tazewell, VA Patsy Walker and husband Raymond of Tazewell, VA Sister, Dorothy Beavers of Marion, VA Brothers, Barney Dunford, Jr. and Bill Dunford both of Bucyrus, Ohio Six Grandchildren: Raymond Walker, Jr., Stevie Mitchem and wife Sonya, John Walker and wife Vicki, Donnie Mitchem and wife Angie, John Patton Griffith and wife Julie, Roger Griffith and wife Natalie Step Grandchildren: Jessica Sheckler and Blaine Sheckler, Jr. and Selena and Scott Meade Thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter also survive along with a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to express their heartfelt blessings upon her loving Dr. Ed Tolosa and his wife Soriel and daughter Edna. Funeral services for Georgia Griffith will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the Tazewell Baptist Church in Tazewell Virginia with the Rev. Myron Fields and David Calfee officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Her loving Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 on Friday at the Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Tazewell Baptist Church, 141 Tower Street, Tazewell, VA 24651
