Gerald Monroe Fields, age 72 of Tazewell, VA died Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. He was born July 15, 1948 in Tazewell, VA and was a son of the late Roland B. and Virginia Ellen Harman Fields. Gerald was a 1968 Graduate of Tazewell High School and was a retired telephone installer and repairman, having worked many years for the various phone companies, retiring from Verizon. After retirement, Gerald drove a truck for American Recycling, a job that he dearly loved. Mr. Fields was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed all things mechanic, especially working on tractors. Gerald loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the company of his grandsons. He was of the Christian faith. Those who survive to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Mary Ann McCloud Fields; his son, Gerald Brian Fields and wife, Melinda of Tazewell, VA; his sister, Jeanne Lee Fields of Witten Valley, VA; his brother, Roland B. “Sunny” Fields, Jr. and wife, Pat of Glade Spring, VA; two grandsons, Ian and Duncan Fields, both of Tazewell, VA; a host of other family members and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Mr. Fields will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Phillip Horton officiating. Burial will follow at the McCloud Family Cemetery in Tannersville, VA. Pallbearers will be Brian Fields, Ian Fields, Duncan Fields, Devon Stevens, Robert Wilson and Hassel Wilson. Military Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2021. In compliance with the Governor’s Corona Virus Mandate, all COVID-19 precautions will be observed.
