Geraldine Vandyke

Mrs. Geraldine Keene Vandyke, age 75, of Ferrum, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Dobson, North Carolina. She was born in Buchanan County, Virginia and was the daughter of Alice Street Keene of Claypool Hill, Virginia and the late Garlie Jack Keene. She had made her home in the Richlands area most of her life prior to moving to Ferrum, Virginia area 20 years ago. She was a secretary for W.W. Fields, Jr. and J.C. “Don” Matney Nationwide Insurance. She was a graduate of Garden Creek High School and attended Bluefield Business School. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Ray Vandyke and two brothers, Billy B. Keene and Jimmie C. Keene. Survivors, in addition to her mother, are: One Daughter: Cheryl Salyers and husband, Bryon of Richlands, Virginia One Son: Chadwick Vandyke and wife, Donna of Ferrum, Virginia Three Sisters: Kathleen Boyd of Richlands, Virginia Jean Smith and husband, Johnny of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Peggy Pinkerton of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Two Brothers: Hubert Keene and wife, Helen of Ashland, Ohio Ronald L. Keene and wife, Teah of Bristol, Tennessee Four Grandchildren: Thomas Shane Salyers and wife, Katherine of Washington, DC; Zachary Ryan Salyers and wife, Kayla of Shalimar, FL; Kayla Alissie Vandyke of Ferrum, VA; and Ashley Julieanne Vandyke of Ferrum, VA; Two Step Grandchildren, Thackery Hale of Ferrum, VA; and Brittney Hale of Utah; and Two Great Grandchildren: Robert Sagon Salyers and Bryon Kade Salyers also survive. Graveside services for Geraldine Vandyke will be conducted Friday, November 25, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia with Johnny Smith officiating. Entombment will follow. Pallbearers will be: Mike Swarner, Greg Smith, Ray Smith, Jeffrey Boyd, Brandon McCracken, Blake McCracken, and Josh Davis. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tim Keene, Darrell Keene, and Randy Keene.
