Gladys Marie (Keen) Church

Gladys Marie (Keen) Church, age 94, of Bandy, Virginia, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024 in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. She was born in McDowell County, West Virginia and was the daughter of the late James “Jim” Keen and Rosetta Underwood Keen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jarvey Church; son, Dillo W. Church; Grandson, Curtis R. Mullins; sisters, Gracie Boggs, Bessie Mullins, Betty Jane Jones; Carmia Horn; and Edna Horn; and brothers, Robert, Creed, Bobby, Jarvey, and Harvey Keen. Mother Gladys lived in Whitewood, Virginia most of her life and moved to the Bandy area in 1973 making her home there for the past 51 years. Mother was with her daughter Frances for the past 11 months helping her as a care giver along with her daughters Lois, Phyllis, and Bea. Special thanks to CNA granddaughter, Brianna, for helping with her cargiving. Mom loved being with family, she loved her garden, and loved canning food from her garden to keep through the winter months. Mom’s passion was making quilts. Most of all Mom loved cooking from all of her family. Mother Gladys had fed so many of her family on the Church and Keen sides when times were hard during the 60s and 70s. If you visit her home, Mom would also make sure you had something to eat. Mom loved all foods from the garden and she loved her flowers. Survivors are: Daughters: Trula Bea Compton and husband, Charles of Compton Mtn, Virginia Bea Blankenship of Whitewood, Virginia Phyllis Stacy and husband, Larry of Bandy, Virginia Lois Keen and husband, BJ of Belfast, Virginia Frances Kennedy and husband, Donald of Bradshaw, WV Son: Claude Church of Bradshaw, WV Sister: Mary Adams (age 93) of Raysal, WV Grandsons: David Church, Donnie Church, Kevin Blankenship, Donald Kennedy, Jarvey Kennedy, James Kennedy, and Coty Stacy. Granddaughters: Arlene Skeens, Bonnie Viers, Pam Daniels, Amanda Stacy, Alesha Bowman, Brianna Kennedy, Tara Hagerman, Rita Kilby, and Geneva Rife. Host of Loving Step Children; Host of Loving Great Grandchildren; Host of Loving Great-Great Grandchildren; Host of Loving Great-Great-Great Grandchildren; and a Host of Loving Nieces and Nephews. Funeral services for Gladys Church will be conducted Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 1pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Troy Lester officiating. Burial will follow at the Noah Stewart Cemetery on Compton Mountain. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Great Grandsons as Honorary Pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family from 12pm until 1pm on Saturday prior to the funeral.
